~"My name is Tarah Burge. I grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, but I've been living in Ankara, Turkey for a little over a year now. I became inspired to create things when I was given a handmade wedding gift by my husbands cousin. The details of the handmade lace made me eager to learn how it was crafted, and I spent a lot of time learning the technique. After that I developed an urgency to learn new forms of art, but I wanted to add my own personal twist.
~"I always loved eccentric fashions and cultural art forms, so my hope was to combine the two. I'm still working on some ideas that I haven't fully been able to mesh out yet, but I love the idea of steam punk influences being blended in with traditional Japanese art, and different forms of embroidery. When I imagine a new idea, I usually take about 3-4 months to piece it together before I actually attempt to make it. The process of creation usually causes me to gain even more ideas, and I'll instantly turn to my sketchbook, draw out the rough draft, and start ordering supplies.
~"I know it may seem a bit cheesy, but the person that first motivated me to even begin creating accessories was my husband. I actually wanted to be a designer when I was a kid, but I never took the idea seriously until he suggested it. I spent a lot of time sketching out costumes, or jewelry that I would want to make. Now, I realize that this dream is possible, so I opened my Etsy store on June 5th. I plan to really build up my Etsy shop in the next 6 months with some culturally rich pieces, and I'm really excited about all the opportunities that may come along the way."
